Brendan Coyle, who plays the embattled valet John Bates on PBS’ “Downton Abbey,” gave a fan a dressing down on Twitter.
Follower Roberta Knighton responded disapprovingly to a tweet Coyle had made criticizing former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, calling Coyle’s remarks “beneath him.”
Coyle, 49, shot back at the fan in two tweets, The Sun reported.
"Hard to know how to respond to that…but go f*** yourself feels about right," the actor posted.
He followed up with a reiteration of his insult.
"You have no idea what is beneath me…p.s. go f*** yourself."
The 53-year-old Knighton was taken aback at the aggressive reply.
"He comes across as utterly sweet and gently and then speaks to people like that," Knighton said.
Coyle is currently in Vietnam filming new flick “Noble.”
