Actually… A Stereotype is “A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing” Oversimplified is the term that makes it a stereotype most times. All ____ are like this. Or ALL ______ are good/bad at _____.
Shows like this and Big Bang Theory just throw geeks into a mold and assume that they are all the same. It’s no different than what shows do with gender or race and that’s why its just as offensive to people who consider themselves geeks.
Also being socially awkward is a trait of every group, not just geeks. Being a geek means that you enjoy things so much that you try to learn EVERYTHING about it. That’s my definition anyways. Geek used to mean the guy who bit off chicken heads at the circus. Obviously definitions can change over time.
