Capcom has lifted the lid on some new Resident Evil 6 screens and some details. RE6’s zombies aren’t the typical slow shambling bunch of past Resident Evil titles, no these can use weapons and leap at you from far distances. Along with more blood thirsty undead is the addition of the J’avo.

Named by the BSAA after the Serbian word for ‘demon’, the first J’avo made an appearance in the conflict zone of Eastern Europe about six months before the action of Resident Evil 6. The J’avo exhibit certain human elements – such as the ability to understand speech, work together as a group and use weapons – but they are also incredibly aggressive and a number of their actions have regressed to pure instinct. When a J’avo takes damage it has the ability to regenerate itself. However if it is receives major damage then it will mutate that affected body part into a number of varied forms, meaning players will have to rethink their strategy and adapt to this unpredictability. In other words, Oh crap!

Thankfully to help keep you alive is an evolved control system that lets you shoot and move at the same time! You can now roll in any direction, take cover and have various melee attacks. Expect more Resident Evil 6 details in the next few months, because a title this big is going to be packed with content.

Resident Evil: Retribution

Milla Jovovich recently tweeted that Resident Evil: Retribution will likely be the title of the fourth movie, she will return as Alice and Paul W.S. Anderson will be back as director, and the current plan is to shoot the movie in Tokyo. She also offered this insight into the rather, er, unique development process:

“Just to let the RE fans know, ‘cause there’s been a bunch of questions about the next film, Paul has kids that are professional players. All they do is play the games until they master every level and unlock every code. They play the games for weeks and give Paul the footage. So, he’s literally watching days of the most awesome RE players out there to get inspiration for the next installment of the franchise.”

Resident Evil 6 Is Gonna Be “Totally Different”

As if Resident Evil 5, with its alternative controls and albino zombies on motorbikes, wasn’t different enough. Upcoming Resident Evil 6 is going to be even more different.

According to Masachika Kawata, currently producer of Resident Evil: Raccoon City, big changes are planned for the inevitable RE6.

“The series will see a complete renovation with the next entry on every level,” Kawata told website MarcaPlayer (translated by Rely on Horror). “But we can’t forget about all the previous entries that have led to the creation of many possibilities for the franchise.”

“I can’t say if we’re going to make it (Resident Evil 6) survival horror or a shooter,” Kawata continues, “but I can say that it’ll be totally different.”

It better not be a music game. Or a stupid pet zombie sim.
